You should plan on getting plenty of rest that afternoon, and you’ll want to have someone around the house to assist you. It’s common to experience swelling and bruising after nose surgery, but this will subside within about ten days. Dr. Lee will prescribe medication to help alleviate any discomfort, but you should avoid aspirin, NSAIDs and Vitamin E supplements for the first two weeks of your recovery. You will have a plastic flexible splint inside and outside your nose for one week. You may also experience some bleeding and drainage from your nose after surgery. This will slowly stop, and you can change the gauze under your nose as needed.

Depending on the severity of your sagging issues and your unique goals, Dr. Lee may recommend one of the following incision options: Periareolar incision “Lollipop” incision Wise pattern “anchor” incision After the incision has been made, Dr. Lee will remove excess skin, tighten and reshape the breast tissue, and move the newly-shaped breast mound to a higher position on the chest wall. He may also reduce the size of the areola if necessary. Dr. Lee will then relocate the nipple to a more elevated, central position on the breast, keeping it attached to the underlying tissue to help preserve nipple sensation. BREAST LIFT RECOVERY It’s crucial that you follow Dr. Lee’s aftercare instructions diligently. This will ensure that you heal properly and achieve the best possible results. You will need to wrap your breasts in an ACE bandage after surgery. The bandage should cover your breasts completely and fit somewhat tightly in order to provide the support you need. You can remove the ACE bandage to shower after the first three days, but make sure to rewrap your breasts immediately following your shower. Dr. Lee will monitor your recovery and let you know when it is safe to discontinue using the ACE bandage. You may experience some mild bruising and swelling after surgery, but this will gradually subside as you heal. Dr. Lee will prescribe pain medication to help you manage any discomfort. Don’t drive while you are taking pain medication. Keep the following items in mind during your recovery after a breast lift: You’ll need to sleep on your back for two weeks after breast lift surgery Avoid alcohol and cigarettes for at least three weeks after surgery Avoid lifting your arms over your shoulders for three weeks, and avoid picking up objects heavier than two pounds during this time period Cold packs can be applied over the Ace bandage to reduce swelling, but avoid using heating pads on your breasts

• Skin Cancer Reconstruction

  Skin cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer in this country. There are three major types, including basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma. Dermatologists trained in Mohs surgery can excise the skin cancer with both precision and accuracy. Plastic surgeons usually take a standard margin for each type of skin cancer and check the margins with a “frozen section” where a pathologist looks at the excised skin cancer under the microscope to check for clear margins at the time of the surgery. Both Mohs surgery and the plastic surgeons’ excision techniques using standard margins have excellent cure rates for skin cancer. In cases where the Mohs surgeon performs the cancer excision, reconstruction is performed on the same day at a surgery center by a plastic surgeon. There are various techniques for reconstruction, including primary closure, skin graft, and local flaps. Primary closure is performed in cases where the defect or the wound left by the excision of the skin cancer is relatively small. If the defect is a circular wound, the circle is fashioned into an oval to achieve a linear closure. A skin graft is used to cover defects which are relatively large. The skin is taken from an area of the body where there is enough laxity and the skin is expendable. The skin graft is applied to the defect and sutured into place. There is a “cushion”-type dressing placed over the skin graft which is sutured on for 5-7 days. A flap is the process of covering defects with local tissue around the defect, based upon the use of geometric patterns and intrinsic skin laxity. It is more often performed than skin grafts or even primary closures because it tends to heal in the most inconspicuous manner where the scars are not readily noticeable. In Mohs surgery, the extent of the skin cancer defect will not be known until after the skin cancer is excised. So, at your initial consultation, Dr. Lee will go over with you the various surgical techniques which may be used to reconstruct the defect. Once the Mohs surgery is done and Dr. Lee has a chance to examine the actual defect, he will be better able to discuss the exact procedure which will be performed. This discussion will take place just before you go off to the operating room at the surgery center.
